Homework 12/5

Writing– read the sample informational essay this evening.

Write down at least 5 things that you noticed within the text.  Does your writing reflect what you’re seeing here?  Think about your westward expansion paper and the two essays I collected today.

What strategies/observations did you make that we covered in class?

Lastly, decide if you want to stick w/ your current ‘expertise’ topic or choose a different one.  We will discuss further how to take good notes and develop a paper from beginning to end, but to begin that we need to make sure we are all on the same page starting tomorrow.

Math- more adding/subtracting mixed numbers practice (we will be covering fractions for a while until I’m comfortable we mastered the skill.  Remember, change the terms to improper fractions w/ common denominators if you have to).

Reading– along w/ the sample packet for Writing, read at least 25 minutes tonight, continue taking notes on your non-fiction text.  Instead of a traditional reading log, I’m simply going to check that you have your notes written on a fresh page each day w/ the title of the text, the chapter, page numbers, main ideas, difficult words, etc., all the things we’ve been covering the past few weeks should be included in your notes.

Be sure to use the prompts for full credit- explain your notes!

  • I’m realizing…
  • This might be important because…
  • I wonder if…
  • Could it be that…
  • Probably they…
  • It must have been…
  • For example…
  • Probably after a while…
